Description of OBD-II DTC Trouble Code
The camshaft position – timing is excessively retarded on Bank 1.
What does this mean?
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code that applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles such as Toyota, VW, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Audi, Acura, etc.
The code P0015 pertains to the variable valve timing (VVT) or variable camshaft timing (VCT) components and the car’s powertrain control module (PCM), also known as an ECM.
This code specifically refers to the timing of the camshaft. If the cam timing is excessively retarded, the engine light will illuminate and the code will be set. Bank #1 refers to the side of the engine that contains cylinder #1. The “B” camshaft can be either the “exhaust,” “right,” or “rear” camshaft. Left/Right and Front/Rear are determined from the driver’s seating position.

Possible Solutions
The main thing to check is the operation of the VCT solenoid. Look for a sticking or stuck VCT solenoid valve caused by contamination. Refer to the vehicle-specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Note: Dealer technicians have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including testing components using a scan tool.
